Over the past month we've put on two retreats...the Fall Retreat and a 24 Hour Getaway. The Fall retreat was October 29-30th and had about 70 college students from around the Seattle area representing many different schools. Matt Mikalatos spoke and made reference to his book, Imaginary Jesus, speaking about 'who is the real Jesus?' We broke into smaller groups after each session for discussion that was really sweet and beneficial to the students. There was a super fun dance party that Bryon and I enjoyed participating in with students. Some highlights I heard students say were that they built friendships with other students around the city, they learned more about Jesus and they had a ton of fun! So, it seemed a success to our team.
We only had 5 or so students from the UW attend the Fall retreat due to a home football game. So, as a UW team we planned a '24 Hour Getaway' where UW students could get away for 24 hours, get to know each other, have fun and hear teaching from the Bible. We had 18 students come and had the overnight at a church south of Seattle.
It was a small and simple church so we spruced it up by naming the rooms students slept in...The Four Seasons, Hyatt, Hilton and so forth. They got a kick out of that. When the ladies checked in, I told them they were staying in the Four Seasons and they were thrilled. Ha! We cooked meals for them, had some teaching about what it means to truly follow Jesus and heard from students about where they're at in following Jesus. Although smaller in size, we felt like this was a win for our team and the students. It was sweet to see them connect with each other and have fun.
