An Ugly Sweater Christmas Party

What is the Christmas season without an ugly sweater party?! We agree. Last Friday, we invited 6 of our CRU student leaders over for dinner in the ugliest sweater they could find. The 6 staff, including us, served them dinner, yummy cider and dessert. Our heart in having them over was to recognize them and encourage them in their vital role in the ministry with us.
(Bryon and me in our ugly sweaters....Rylee even wore one!)

After eating dinner, we sat around our living room and toasted to the things we had seen God do over the past quarter on campus and in the lives of students. We invited the students to share anything they could think of and we did the same. It was awesome to hear them all!

After that, we as staff took time to encourage each of them in how we had seen God work in their lives and what victories we had seen. These students really are q u a l i t y! Many of them have made decisions to move back into the dorms to influence the lives of students. One guy is a senior living amongst freshman guys and is making an incredible impact! His roommate and many of the guys on his floor are now involved with CRU and staff guys are meeting with them.

Two of the women I encouraged are women that I've seen courage and sacrifice in. They've taken steps of faith to reach out to other students in the midst of being really nervous to do so. Also, they come to both the Wednesday and Thursday night Bible studies when they don't have to. They just want to be there to be a support and to be as involved as they can.

To top off the evening, Papa Scharenberg (as everyone was calling him), read the Christmas story from The Jesus Storybook Bible. It was a sweet way to end the evening in remembering why we celebrate Christmas, the coming of Jesus, our Savior into the world.

We then ate brownies and watched a Christmas episode of the Office and sent them away with homemade Christmas candy.
